Inuit coming of age tradition

In North Baffin Island, their coming of age tradition is for boys to go into the wilderness where they are accompanied by their fathers. The boys are about 11or 12years old  when this event happens. In the wilderness they test their hunting skills as well as adapt to the cold artic weather. A shaman is also with them and it is said that he " would be called to open the lines of communication between men and animal." (globalcitizen.org). What role does facing obstacles have in shaping an individual's identity?

In response to the question:  what role does facing obstacles have in shaping an individual's  identity? when facing obstacles it makes one more self determined and have a greater appreciation towards life . When wanting to over come an obstacle one must become self motivaed in order to achieve the challenge. It also makes one relize that in life one must work a little harder in life for completing a challenge. By working harder it makes one have a stronger inner strength. When facing obstacles one also has a greater appreciation towards life.Because life isn't easy one should not take the simple things in life for granted. One should see the good things in life when one is struggling with obstacles. Challenges one might face in life include group challenges in dealing with many different persanalites as well as challnges with inner self such as lack of self confidence or a poor judgment call. Obstacles may also include events that happen in ones life such as a accident involving a risk in ones life or the safety of a society.  without obstacles however one will loose important qualities such as working hard and not seeing the joy in life since they never had to work very hard to succeed in life.
